International audienceWhile several academics have studied the relations between the Greek novel, epics and classical theater, very few have been interested in the relations between the novel and lyric poetry. Erwin Rohde’s main thesis may have dissuaded this kind of study, which is difficult, since even if the hexametric citations are recognized easily enough in the novelistic prose, the lyric meters are generally not cited explicitly: we prefer to talk about allusions.
